WritAnon is a social networking website for writers seeking advice and mentorship. The primary components of WritAnon are currently its forums and its blog. However, there are many planned additions, so the site will be constantly evolving over the next few months.
WritAnon's forums are designed to help new users acclimate to the community, and provide them with ample opportunities to post questions and/or give advice. The number of users is small, but growing, so the activity on the forums will increase over time.
WritAnon's blog is updated each Monday morning with the latest developments on the site, history of the WritAnon community, or any other thoughts the Bartender (our site administrator) wants to share. You will also find stories posted to inspire writers in different ways, such as how to include sounds in your writing, analysis of successful writers, and how to use story elements to practice writing.
Along with the free forums and blog postings, WritAnon offers services customized to help writers. For example, would you like feedback on your latest novel, but do not want the entire world to see it? You may want to check out our private forum service, where, for a small fee, you can allow only those few to review your work.
Alternatively, if you're a local writers group, you may want to have a private forum so that you can keep your conversations to group members only.
We also offer confidential editing services, so you can receive blunt, honest feedback to improve your writing.
These short stories are mostly meant to entertain writers. Some stories also serve as good examples of unusual styles of writing, such as writing in the second person (The Bartender), or stories with an unexpected twist (A Run in the Forest).
This section focuses on the "how" of writing...how to get started, how to avoid (or dfeat) writer's block, etc. Some of the articles also focus on giving ideas on how to find inspiration through music or other methods. We are also currently accepting inspirational story submissions from writers wanting to inspire others.
The seed for WritAnon was planted in 1999 at a free MSN Community named WritersAnonymous. Users from all over the world were able to connect with no cost other than time. At that moment in time, this was still a novel concept--the Internet was still new, and only about 30-35% of the United States was online.
After a few years, the small writers community had swelled to over 300 members. Eventually, though, the group faded away as the original members started pursuing other paths. MSN communities closed for good in early 2009.
One of the early members of the WritersAnonymous community contacted the original creator in early 2009, asking what was to become of the group with the closing of MSN communities. Through some discussions, the creator decided to start a new community, and WritAnon.com was born.
Since WritAnon's resurrection, we have added many more features that were not available in the original community. Our belief is that this will allow WritAnon.com to quickly grow beyond its predecessor...like a pheonix rising from the ashes, we will arise stronger than before.
